Production periods

Pre Production
This is the planning stage, this is the time when ideas are thrown around between the designers and the clients, often alot of time is spent in this period as both parties try to sort out the fine details before production of the product begins. The better youre company is at pre production methods then this makes for a faster and better quality product with less problems during the production as everything is planned out precisely.

Production
This is the stage where all the ideas are finalized and put into practise, this is where all the raw data and footage is collected/filmed. Everything that is needed for the final product is gathered during this period, generally a rough draft of the final product is completed.

Post Production
All the raw data and footage is now put together and details are put in place. Many do-overs happen in post production and sometimes the company may have to go back to the production stage and get new data etc if the client isnt happy with the results in post production, which can be costly to both parties. So thats why Pre Production is so important.

Revision

Text must be clear and easy to read. These two aspects are the rules you should always ask yourself when using text. Is the font you are using an accepted type in the field with which you are working. i.e you shouldnt use comic sans on a university lab submission etc. Be careful which colour you use also, like dont have red text with a green background and other obvious mixes.

Some notes!

Image manipulation....basic image manipulations include, reducing image quality to save memory (compression) editing brightness, remove red eye etc. Many different manipulation can be acheieved using digital image processing packages such as fireworks and photoshop. File types are extremely important and there are packages which can change a file type of an image to suit youre requirements.

Colour is important in relation to design. If a company goes to say a web designer and asks them to make a site dedicated to a certain product of theirs. The site must include colours that are associated with the company. This gives the user that will eventually be navigating through this site a sense of familierality with that company, maybe they have had a good experience with this company before hand and feels comfortable buying from then again. Many colours fit well together while many dont also. You must find a good pallette from which to work from, one which will be appealing to the user but at the same time be practical and relevent to the subject/website/poster/dvd etc.

Week 6. Colours

During the lecture today we spoke about why colours are so important in multimedia. Some colours do not bode well with others, while some compliment others.

example of a good colour pallette

The colours compliment each other. This pallette would be well suited to a company involved in home ware, as it is a warm set of colours, homely feeling.

a bad example would be

I believe this to be a fairly over-the-top set of colours, it would personally put me off a website if it were set up with these colours.

Week 1. Multimedia is the new syntax for communication

I have been asked to discuss the following terms in the context of the definition 'Multimedia is the new syntax for communication'
Modality
Medium
Channel

Modality is the path of communication between a human and a computer. It includes input devices such as, keyboards, graphics tablets. And computer outputs, i.e seeing and hearing.
Hearing is refered to as audition modality and
Seeing can be known as vision modality
In the context of the question, modality is important because it is a way to communicate information, on either yourself (powerpoint interview), a project, a film, web site or many other forms of multimedia, to new clients or future bosses. It is a popular way of reading up on current affairs (news websites) and images and videos give you, the user, a better story on which to go by.

Medium is any form of data transfer, from a CD-ROM (which only holds information, known as a recording medium) to a USB 2.0 mass storage device which can be constantly updated, i.e adding new fils and deleting old ones.
In context with the question, medium is now the popular way to transfer media to another computer/person.

Channels is where products are made by a certain company and then sold to another (sometimes, then another, then another etc) before being sold to the market via, shops, by phone etc.
In the context of the question it is very true, with the use of online stores like amazon, doing so well, and more and more money being spent online every year. Amazon has a very simple interface, but this has proven very effective. Also, many companys have benefited from online advertising, again the use of multimedia is crucial here.
